CAMBRIDGE SERENE REFLECTION MEDITATION GROUP (SOTO ZEN)

The Cambridge Serene Reflection Meditation Group is affiliated to the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives.  The Order follows the tradition of Serene Reflection Meditation which is in the Soto Zen tradition of Buddhism.  In Great Britain the Order has a monastery (Throssel Hole Buddhist Abbey) and a number of priories and meditation groups.

For more information please see:
Order of Buddhist Contemplatives: http://www.obcon.org/
Throssel Hole Buddhist Abbey: http://www.throssel.org.uk/

Within the Soto Zen tradition men and women have equal status.

The meditation group's primary purpose is to support members in their practice of Serene Reflection Meditation and the following of the Buddhist Precepts.  We welcome people from other Buddhist or non-Buddhist traditions, or people who have no religious affiliation, as long as they are comfortable with the practices we follow.

In our meditation and ceremonial we follow the forms and practices of the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives as closely as is appropriate.  We look to the senior monks for spiritual teaching and guidance; the group has regular visits from senior monks of the Order.

The group meets twice a month on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month in the evening for about two hours at the Friends’ Meeting House at 91-93 Hartington Grove, Cambridge, CB1 7UB.  The Meeting House has parking facilities and can also be reached either by walking or by bus from the railway station.  The meetings usually include the recitation of Buddhist scriptures and both seated and walking meditation.  We usually have a cup of tea and a chat afterwards.

Loose clothing is recommended for meditation.  There is no charge for coming to the group; a bowl is made available for people who wish to contribute to the costs of the group (such as the hire of the room).
